[META] Orange County, CA: OC ARG!

Well... This thread is here still from when we were trying to get "Troy" and has just been taking up space doing nothing. So I've re-appropriated it, figuring we could stop cluttering up the LA thread. Very Happy

Robynn has made a wonderful page with info about axons behind the Orange Curtain.

We are not the boss of you, so if you can on any day you'd like. But if OC axons have not gone hot by Friday, we'll use this thread to let you know what's going on in an effort to coordinate our... efforts for a Saturday of driving around answering phones. Very Happy

So scroll on over to the end of this thread for late breaking news. Very Happy

Troy did not go hot today...

There are three locations within some 500 feet or so of each other that have phones, that work, take incoming calls, and actually ring. One of which we've ruled out today I think...

Let's be organised about this.

If you're planning on trying the Troy Axon on Sunday, reply here.

I suggest we all meet for lunch at noon at:

Po Folks Restaurant
7701 Beach Blvd
Buena Park, CA
Map

This place in right by Movieland Wax Museum, and one of the working pay phones is right in front of the place. (Or just come by and have a soda or a water if you don't want lunch. With a name like "Po Folks" how expensive can it be?)

Then we can see how many people we have and get all possible phones covered in plenty of time.

((If the Mods could move this to Axon Coordination that would be nice, if not, I understand. Very Happy ))

Edit: topic and moved by request -veen

Idea You know I have been in that area in the past. that's the place by ripleys belive it or not and medevil times right? And that movie wax museum, how close is it to the coordinates. I seem to recall that museum has a gift shop(i bught a starwars poster there)and it may have a pay phone. Funny thing is I think it is in the middle of the mueseum and you have to go through the tour to get to it. This was a while ago though and I could be wring about that payphone. Do any of you people in CA feel like taking a tour?

Hmmm, thanks for the intel, I'll check this out on Sunday.

TROY!

I'm in. Hell, I went there today, might as well go tomorrow.

I'll be at the restaurant, probably about noon. If someone gets there before me, see about leaving some sort of message at the front (?) so we can all get to the right table. Or we can all just mill about until we blunder into each other.

Whatever works.

When I get a table, I'll tell the host/ess (or whatever) to send anybody looking for "Beekeepers" my way. If a message is left, it will be left under the name of Beekeepers.

Read this thread

It should help. Somebody was already at that phone but didn't give a response and after some silence Melissa gave up. Good luck tomorrow. These first two hidden axons seem tricky.

Here's what happened there (13:19). The payphone is right behind Starbucks (7711 Beach Blvd), and even its address is the same.

I guess there's not a need for a huge posse, since we know exactly what phone it is. But I'd still like to be there to experience it -- and to meet some fellow beekeppers. Smile So unless something changes, I'm in for meeting at Po Folks for lunch at noon tomorrow.

Yanka, will you be there again? Your experience would be most appreciated...

Anyone else? Anyone with a tape recorder, maybe???

HitsHerMark, I got your PM, but if you don't mind, I'll answer here - so that everyone going tomorrow would know which phone it is.

You know the Starbucks there (7711 Beach Blvd)? If you are facing the entrance, the two phones on the left (they are actually in the walkway to the Wax Museum, or whatever that building actually is... I thought it was a museum...) are it. You can actually check - they both list their address as 7711 Beach Blvd. I think I'll refrain from posting their numbers here, but I'll PM them to you (then you'd be able to identify them by the number).

If you are facing the phones, it will be the left one. I'm not sure if I'm going to be there tomorrow; if I am, I'll see you there Smile

Yeah, those are the phones we were standing by. No ring, except for that weird wrong number about five minutes before. Kind of a weird coincidence, I keep going back and forth about it in my head, but ultimately I guess it's just the laws of probability at work.

No, I don't mind at all, I just sent the PM to get your attention.

And for the person who was asking about a tape recorder, I have a digital voice recorder.

This is a picture of the spot where we were Sat. Perhaps somebody who was there on Fri can conferm it's the right spot?

Yeah, someone please verify!

This does look about right -- it is indeed a pair of phones "in the walkway to the Wax Museum." Additionally, though, macklin mentioned that the phones were on the left when you face a Starbucks. From the location of this photo, was there a Starbucks (out of frame) to the right?

Maklin was there with me the other day (Sat.). I had hoped Yanka or one of the other guys there on Friday would conferm that is the spot.

And yes. I I had just turned a little to the right, I could have taken a picture of the Starbies from where I was standing when I took the picture of the phones.
