[OT/HUMOR] Embarissing Situations caused by ILB

So, I was talking to my friends in the computer lab the other day, and decided to check up on ILB.com to see if recipe6 had updated yet or not. Anyways, they asked what it was, and I began to try to explain it to them.

"well, see, all these GPS coords are set up by an AI from the year 2552 that's been thrown back into our time along with two other..."

And then they walked away. Later on, since the page hadn't updated (Why, oh, why, didn't I realise it was thursday!?) I tried the voicemail. No go there, but one of my friends asked who I was calling. Now, I've sucesfully explained it to two of my friends by this point in time. They knew what was going on here, and all three of us were laughing at him. This one, and several others, had NO idea. So, I play the message for him... And he gets really freaked out. Side point on this, is I'm trying to make as many subtle refs to it as possible now (IE - DAAAAAMN! Creepy... I can do better than that. PARABOLIC LEMONADE FAILURE!!!! - Fun to yell out on a busy street, btw), anyways.... Anyone else gotten themselfs into any embaressing situations because of ILB? Just figure this deserved a thread, since I KNOW that I'm not the only one out there who's had something like this happen.

I have the same problem, and many of those who I've showed it to think I'm crazy for listening to 3 1/2 hours of audio files straight.

I've actually gotten one guy to listen to the audio, but I'm not sure if he'll be interested in doing much else...

The first time I answered an axon was about 3-4 weeks ago.

It was at a bus stop with a half dozen or so people waiting there. So I kinda blended into the crowd while waiting. I had my watch set to "Melissa Time", so I was able to have my hand on the receiver right when it rang. Picked it up (didn't even say hello), answered the question, listened intently to the wav piece, said "continue", and then hung up.

I look up to see everyone at the stop staring at me with very worried expressions on their faces.

My mind was racing, trying to figure out how best to summarize this whole deal in one sentence or less without sounding like a moron. Unfortunately, the best I could do was blurting out:
"Uh... its for a game on the internet."
And then running away to make my next axon in time.

I can only imagine how suspicious the whole thing looked to the uninitiated. Thankfully the bus stop has been vacant in weeks since.

I too have been unable to get many friends interested. They all think I'm obsessed or something Laughing I did get one guy to listen to a few wavs and to understand the general story concept, and I got my brother to send in a pic last week. But other than that its so lonely being a beekeeper.... the GPAA needs a recruitment drive.

I don't think so. Very Happy

I prefer the term "geek". If I understand the two terms correctly, the biggest difference between a nerd and a geek is that geeks are still capable of blending into society.

and a geek may, one day, still have desired relations with a human of the appropriate gender, while a nerd.. well.. maybe they reproduce asexually., some form of budding.. Laughing

Internets. Wink

On-topic: I still can't bring myself to tell my director and cast that I'd sung a song from the show over a payphone to a krazy A.I. from the future. I think of the half hour it would take to just get the background covered, and I figure that maybe it's best that they never know.

We open this weekend. I'll be serenading Melissa from a small stage in the Near West Suburbs to a live audience, them having no clue what an utter dork I am. Very Happy

The first axon I got was pretty hilarious. The deal was supposed to ring in 4 minutes and me and my friend we're still driving to the site and had no idea where it was. So we get to this parking lot where there are no payphones in sight with 2 minutes till it rang.

We run into this resturant that was close by, and I scream at the nearest waiter: "Where's the payphone!?!?" He gives us this odd look and says there's one by the restroom. We race over and find the phone, both of us gasping for air. Not within 1 minute of us being there the phone rings, I pick up and say the codeword "Operator" and listen to the file, then say "Continue". Hang up, everyone at their tables are staring at us. We just start laughing and then I take a picture of the phone just for good measure.

Oh... good times axon hunting....

All I have to say is: Try explaining this to your mom. I don't care who she is, but just TRY. Though this is especially true of mothers who aren't particularly familiar with computers in general, much less the workings of video games, ARG's, RPG's, and the internet.
