Yeah, It just seemed to fit too well. They could refer to this person throughout the game in a fictional sense, but I guess it woul dhave the potential for pissing S Marchant off - if we all started contacting her/him about the cube!

Hm, that's an interesting thought - one that I happen to disagree with, but for no reason that I can identify yet. If Perplexcians already know/can access our future, then they probably already traveled to that future in which we found the Cube, and retreived it, and have it back in PC *now*. That said, they must have, of course, done something to deploy our search of the Cube in the first place (which would be happening in *our* present).

I agree...in vid voice-over they studied our past and our present...no mention of anything else.

So it could take us 100 years to find the cube, but as long as they start us looking for it now they can travel forward in time to the exact moment that we eventually find the thing and take it away from us. That doesn't sound like much fun at all.

I'm going to have to disagree with the London and Yorkshire as the nicest places on earth. NYC gets that title. Assuming of course you are wealthy enough to live in a fabulous apartment, vacate the isle of manhattan often, and hire people to take care of all the day to day stuff that eats up more time in this city than anywhere else on the planet (aka laundry and things like going to the bank, or god forbid actually having to go grocery shopping).

By the way, I don't possess any of those three aformentioned traits. <sigh> still a great town though.

Confused

I am going to place some oog references here that have to do with time travel and portal's and the attributes and worlds that are held within each to see if any relate to Perplex City..

a) Sliders - They use a device to enter gateway's into other Earths.
b) Back to the Future - the use a device to travel backwards and forwards nito time. The pass is changed which alters the future (remember the Doc describing the time lines when Biff went back and changed the future by gambling on the horses?).
c) StarGate - Portal which is basically like a worm hole between different planet's.
d) Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure - Time travel - however, the future and past are not affected. It just make's the present more interesting.
e) Dark City - City is some form of space ship and the creatures can alter the physical attributes and mind's of people upon it.

I have a feeling that the Academy are from a higher society that has come from either another time, great distance, or dimension, and have surpassed 'culture' so to speak. They remind me of some form of futuristic arcadian type people that are interested in learning and understanding people and themselves.

I was just going back over things from the early days (#syzygy) and thought it might be worth repeating here. This old post pretty much says it all.

Given the nature of the graphic, it might also explain the phrase in the video "Our researchers have, instead, come to identify very strongly with their counterparts on the other side of the curve." It might also link in with all the Alice in Wonderland references we've been given (rabbit hole / wormhole). If nothing else, food for thought.

And to be faithful to this thread, I have to put in a vote for Perth in Western Australia - surely one of the most picturesque cities in the world Wink .

I know three people who have lived in London & NY - one american, one brit and one south african. All three of them said they preferred London, with the only downside being that stuff costs more over here.

Not conclusive, but certainly compelling Smile

I think what we're seeing in the GateHouse logs is Henrik showing up to work, and S Ling returning from a research shift/expedition while AT work.

Lyssa was waiting for S when s/he arrived, and was not daydreaming of her encounter with James. Perhaps they are those who are involved in finding the cube, as opposed to just researchees in general.

It can be construed from the email exchange between four women that they go to other worlds and research things. They can time travel to some extent - but they don't seem to have precision. And they can only cover so much ground. They're like an 'away team' on Sliders, with a touch of Charlie's Angels thrown in for cliche.

What I see from your speculation is that someone was able to utilize these resources. If the cube was stolen during the ball then anyone with knowledge of the cube could have done it. To me this includes not only guards, researchers, management and masters of the Academy, but anyone they may have encountered in an alternative timeline/world. If knew the ball was on a certain interstice in time, and could maneouvre there through antient science and seize the cube (ball/cube) then it would be possible for a Lex Luther or Moriarity-type character to have collected the cube - either through self-genius, or in collusion with Academy staff and privilleged individuals.

Someone could go back and save Fran.

They don't quite seem to have been able to travel to where the Beston Cellars are, but they know some things. Our Earth is further down the timeline from that unsucessful research in both their world and ours, so they sent messengers here, now.

Our attempt to create a timeline is like a plate of spaghetti. I suggest we just consider the cube a portal. As the old expression goes "Possession is nine-tenths of the Law." So too it would then be that simply knowing where on Earth to be would resolve this ARG.

they solved it for us -- a different planet. Very Happy

so my spec about the name 'syzygy':
it's definitely the astrological term. the planets in a syzygy are "together". this means, that us, earthmen and all those perplexians have to work together.

funny thing, that they knew about us all the time, but we didn't. and they also have things in common - see month names. so... is it possible, that they once were a group of earthmen, and for now, they've become a completely different... err... that word. i'm too sleepy to think. Coffee

Seeing as "syzygy" means the alignment of three celestial bodies perhaps there will be yet another race or dimension that becomes involved in the search for the cube.

Interesting, perhaps the cube was stolen by people from yet another reality
