I realized that there's more new than was quoted in the latest Path of Least Time thread. So, to keep it all together:

While our products are a valuable part of daily life for millions of people, there are some individuals for whom drugs are not an option - namely the competitors in the Perplex City Academy Games.

These razor-sharp players hardly seem in need of enhancement, but every year, a handful try to cheat the system and gain an unfair advantage. Thanks to Cognivia's testing facilities, none has succeeded.

To stay ahead of the curve, we're constantly updating our test techniques. This year, our biodata scans have been upgraded to include a full genetic profile, highlighting any signs of gene therapy. And as cerebral prosthetics become more and more sophisticated, we've developed new methods for detecting and disabling nanotechnology.

The fact remains that many performance-enhancing drugs are analogues of hormones and chemicals that naturally occur in the body. Determining what constitutes an abnormal level is a problematic task.

That's where our experience becomes vital. Cognivia's database of competitor biodata gives us the widest and deepest pool of knowledge, allowing comparisons across time, gender, geography, training and diet. This allows us to specify trigger thresholds for individual competitors, without resorting to across-the-board limits.

If we detect any metabolites or markers of prohibited substances, we pursue these adverse analytical findings with a secondary battery of tests. These allow us to prove whether or not the substance is of exogenous origin.

Even when the presence of a prohibited substance has been proved, there remains the question of intent: did the competitor ingest the substance deliberately, with the aim of cheating? While ignorance is no defence in the eyes of the PCAG, it can be a mitigating factor in sentencing. Our biodata, combined with the testimony of the competitor and any witnesses, can determine whether or not a player will ever compete again.

In 267-9, we conducted over 10,000 separate tests. In these, we detected four confirmed positives and no false-positives. While catching a culprit is never cause for celebration, we believe that it helps to deter others from future attempts at beating the system.

When Ryan Cahill lifted his trophy at the end of the Games this year, everyone at the Academy Ball could rest assured that he was a worthy winner.

Next year, Cahill and his fellow competitors will fight it out once more. Though we can't predict the result, we can say one thing with certainty: while Cognivia and the PCAG work together, cheats will never prosper.

 		I just emailed Kurt trying to persuade him that since Ceretin metabolizes into natural hormones there's a reason to question the coroner. I know, it probably won't be that easy, but worth a shot.

 		This trial blurb is entirely new. So if there is an ad out there, we ought to find it. A live event single-day test sounds good Wink

Of course, Cognivia clearly is controlling PXC through insidious and undiscovered genetic engineering and neural tweaking Razz *Sure* they're only screening those PCAG competitors....interesting how black-market Ceretin is becoming widely discussed and examined, right as the newest generation is due to hit the consumers. Cognivia is probably creating these 'illegal' variants and secretly supplying dealers as it suits them Razz

 		FYI I've sent an email off to CNV purporting to be from a media company, and expressing an interest in this ad, asking for a copy. However I just got the auto-response, and I've never had any more luck than that!

 		I just did a Google search for "CGW perplex city" got lots of Computer Gaming World forum entries. Looks like there are a lot of US perplex City players on there from before the official US wide release of the cards.

 		These tests they've been using on the PCAG players sound like they may help determine details of Cymbalisty's death.
