[UPDATE] Studio Cypher - Terrini Blog Update 5/15

Last Night

On the advice of my Cypher friends, I went to investigate Hopewell park last night. I managed to convince Larry that I had a friend stranded out there with car problems and I was afraid to go alone. I doubt he believed me since I'm tougher than he is, but it seemed to appeal to his macho side when I asked for help so he agreed to come. The ride out was a real bear: I was sweating about what I might find out there, and I wondering what I might do to John if I see he'd hurt Charles. Okay, I was fantasizing about what I would do. Meanwhile Larry was dropping very obvious "hints" about how I MUST be taking him to a secluded place so we can hook up without everyone at the store knowing. I had to put up with more than two hours of that.

Larry's smart mouth dried up when we arrived. Not only was it pitch black but there was fog, so my flashlight wasn't much help. It was so cold, much colder than it should have been. Larry was hesitant to even get out of the car, but he couldn't swallow his pride enough for little old me to go by myself. We walked most of the way to the tallest mound, trudging through endless fog. Larry was starting at every animal noise and after a while I even began to see things in the fog: animals, people, whatever. Larry had stopped asking if I was trying to take him somewhere secluded to make out. I heard him mutter once, wondering if I was taking him somewhere secluded to kill him. I tried to be reassuring. I told him that my friend wasn't all that smart.

But then when we reached the tallest mound...

Okay, look. I was determined to stand back and watch. That's what you advised me to do. That's what I said I would do. It's not what I did.

The first thing we saw on the hill was a fire. The second thing was John Match, huddling over a small camp fire, reading a piece of paper. I heard him mutter "Ghosts." I was focused on John so much I didn't even see the other person on the top of the hill until Larry grabbed my arm and yelled "What is that!"

I looked up from John, and saw the other figure. It looked like it was part of the fog; a transparent, bent-backed old man was standing in front of John. "Only one!" it shrieked and grew in size, turning into a fearsome misty skeleton with glowing red eyes. Both John and Larry stumbled backwards and before I could think I was charging up the hill. That thing, whatever it was, wouldn't keep me from Charles! I hit it as I ran, I went through it, and it was like running through a wall of cold, sharp ice. Later I was surprised to find I wasn't cut anywhere. It felt like it was cutting me to ribbons.

The world went white, then the world went black, and then I saw something. I saw Charles crawling on the side of a rain-slick road, reaching up towards me with all of his strength. He was in so much pain. Was it my imagination? I don't know... but it gave me the strength to push the rest of the way through and tackle John. The papers went flying, and we went down. Larry, on the car ride back, told me that I was just screaming at first. John was screaming too. "Please don't hurt me, please don't hurt me! Oh God, Chuck, you didn't tell me there were monsters out here too!"

I remember yelling back. "You're the monster!" I had my fist raised up, ready to smash that smug face. "You tell me where Charles is!"

"Sue?" He'd finally noticed me. Blood was gushing down his face. I must have broken his nose. "Charles isn't at home? What are you talking about?"

Then I heard Larry scream out behind me. I turned back to see the "old man" chase him down the hill and out of sight. And just like that I lost John. I just turned for a second but he managed to push me off and run into the fog. There was nothing I could do but grab the papers, which had mostly fallen into his campfire.

This is what I managed to salvage. This is all of it. This is it. I don't know what this has to do with anything, and John seemed... I don't know. Maybe he got more out of those acting lessons than I thought. I'm not sure what to do now. Every time I close my eyes, I see Charles on the road, reaching out to me.

I found Larry at the car. There was no sign of the ghost, if that's what it was. Larry only said two things on the ride back. "I believe you." and "Let us never speak of this again."

I obviously write too damned much. Heh. Saw this topic just as I was posting my own.

So. Campfire ghost stories and burnt pages, hmm?
And it seems as though we've come across our first few mentions of clay and mud.

Will a transcript of some of these pages be necessary?

Interesting little story.

Man, I'm glad they finally picked it up. I'm back into it again.

The picture on the back appears to be the Waverly Hills Sanitarium. The KY on the page Sue recovered gave me the Kentucky connection. You can see the picture about halfway down on the website. Apparently it was a tuberculosis hospital, and is now considered haunted. I guess there is another info cache there...good luck Sue.

I asked Kevin to ask Lane if he'd go with Sue. I didn't bother contacting Lane myself, since Kevin said he never uses email.

Sue left a comment that she is ready to go to Louisville to check it out for us...what a brave girl. She said that Larry wouldn't be going, but if we could convince Lane to go that would be alright with her. So, even though he doesn't do email, I sent one off to Lane anyway to try and convince him. Since Sue is planning on going tomorrow after work, I felt it was time to explore all avenues of communication. I will post any reply I get.

Yes I'm quoting myself because I'm an idiot. It's not that he doesn't like email...he doesn't have email because Kevin closed his account. Here I am sending emails to someone who doesn't even have an account. I need to pay attention to my training a little better. Sorry for the slip-up guys. I'm paying attention now.
