To my knowledge, nobody ever did, but it doesn't seem all that important, as it is most likely a stock photo anyways. If we were supposed to have decoded it, I think we would have been told to by now.

This was discussed in Wongmore Puzzle thread, specifically here ... by me, heehee
Not that the picture does not merit discussion, but maybe not its own separate thread?

Does anyone know what language it is? One of my students is a Japanese exchange student, but I'm embarrassed to say I don't know if that is Japanese or not...

I've already posted what this means a few days back...its a kanji symbol, it literally means "writing brush"....if you right click to save the pic, ull notice its name is "writing"...wongo isnt lying...thats exactly what it means, altho the word brush is missing, but it doesnt generally have to have brush at the end, it can be used both ways.
here...number 129

you mean this image?

It's a "stock" photo, meaning no PM planted any message in it. Go ahead and translate it for your own edification, but be careful about applying your revelations to this game.

the sites linked to the diary/journal/blog thing about Ethan don't have USH on them though
http://www.movabletype.org/
http://www.sixapart.com/
does this mean these websites are outside the game or is another clue or what?

I can only take credit for finding the pic. We still do not know what the chinese writing says. (Yes, the large red character means "writing" and is only the top half of a two-character word, but people keep asking about the stream of words behind it.)
This isn't to say that the image was NOT chosen because of what the writing means. And I suppose there is a very slim chance that one of our own PMs created the image and submitted it to the stock photo library... but c'mon! All i meant was that it was *extremely* unlikely that the writing in the background is a vital clue. For all I know, it does have meaning as an inside joke or Easter Egg.
I didn't mean to discourage anyone from asking their Chinese-reading friends for a translation.
