[SOLVED] Looking For AV - Skull Code

Man this took a while to crack. The solution is below.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The message reads:
YOU ARE THE ONE WHO EATS THE APPLES YOU WILL BE BORN ON THE THIRTY FIRST DAY

The symbol previously assumed to be a space is not, and should be included within the code.

So....now what?

edit: added AV tag - Rowan

okay. how'd you solve it?

and what order does it go? (ie: is it from center front around to the skull's left, then over the top when you reach the front again, and then the two small words, or have i got that totally wrong?)
Edit: i figured out the answer to my own question by looking. yeah.

 Kudos

Good job James! Now we just have to wait for the good doctor to come online and see what he thinks of it...

I'm still going crazy.

How was it solved? Is it some alphabet?

It was a sub cypher, from what I can gather. The problem was that everyone was assuming one of the symbols was a space. I questioned why, James tried it without that assumption, and voila!

i didnt think it was a space either. it was still hard cuz it has an odd letter frequency (unsurprising given the small sample)

it definitely is a monoalphabetic sub cypher, i checked it against my work, and its good.

How it was solved

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Start by turning the symbols into letters, there are 17 distinct symbols on the skull so simply pick a symbol, make it an A and then work around the skull turning each symbol into a letter....or use Tipsila's flat version Smile

Then rewrite the code using the new letters. I started out with:

abbc-defghicefgaj-kl-fm-hlf-akdkl-
ekjilk-lkmfmjfn-nc
oae
pijdk

The Doctor had asked the question 'where would you start writing on it?', my answer was smack in the middle of the forehead. So I split the 12 letter word. Then AxysDenyed asked 'where are you getting the spacing?', my answer was I had assumed it....mistake.
I also realised I had writted the second line the wrong way around.

So the new rewritten code became:

efgajzklzfmzhlfzakdklzabbczdefghic
cnznfjmfmklzklijke
oae
pijdk

Then trial and error after using frquency analysis, mainly focussing on the double letters, words eventually start to make sense.

Then swap the last two lines since 'ON THE THIRTY DAY FIRST' is incorrect.

Woah. Not just a solution, but a really clear tutorial! Cheers!

So... Them apples...

From the three pieces of text we have, it seems that AV merely recognises that Jochen has been chosen for something. So the question is what? How? And to what end?
