I was looking at the books CT gave us:
Hamlet, with Shakespeare everywhere in CP
Papillon, which means butterfly. There's a butterfly garden as well as a shakespeare garden in CP
Been looking for references to the other books, but haven't found anything truly promising yet (and have to go to work now )
Also, what's with all the statues of guys from venezuela? I feel like there's something relevant in there somewhere, but I just can't put my fingers on it.

For anyone that is interested, here is the website that Ampetrizzo and I are looking at and getting pics and research from (amongst others as well for some of the Thurber and Borges stuff)
The Virtual Park link gives a lot of good info and maps...

At the same time, I have thought "Gee.. is that right that MC would put a UK games solution in the US." I would think that it would kinda piss off about 99.9% of our British brothers and sisters that would never make the trip to the US only on spec that something might be there and that they might very well get here, walk right by it and still not find it.
At the time the game was created there were many more US ARG players than UK ARG players so who knows what Mind Candy was thinking at the time? I agree that it seems unlikely that Mind Candy would expect any player to travel just on spec -which is why we have all those clues on the cards. Not that I can solve any of them.
Along these lines of thinking I am not sure about them burying something in Central Park and just expecting it to be there. I really don't think you can just dig in the park without someone noticing and telling someone about it. Digging in the Park has to be against Park rules.
I am very reluctant to encourage people to go to Central Park and start digging without a precise location. The Park is great though, so if you want to visit to see what it is like I say go ahead.
About the New York Public Library - the cards that were found in copies of Alice in Wonderland during syzygy were found at the lending library branch across the street from the Main Library. The Main Library has a park behind it (Bryant Park) but I would never consider it arboreal. Right now there is an ice skating rink set up there. I don't think the library is our location of the buried Cube.
Somewhere in this thread someone mentioned that you aren't supposed to need the cards to find the Cube. I think conclusion is a misinterpretation of the statement that you don't have to buy cards to find the Cube. I just don't want anyone to ignore something that is useful and important to finding the Cube.

Some "Great Lawn" Resources

There is a Shakespeare Theatre and statue in Central Park near the Great Lawn
The Great Lawn has a track around it (1/8 mile walking track) - hence "going around in circles" and "where does the circle begin" from CTs clues.
In the Northeast corner of the Great Lawn is a group of trees. They are LONDON PLAIN TREES (I almost peed myself when I read that)
Borges was in Central Park for a photo opp back in 1962 (I think it was)
Thurber was in Central Park was well. His museum in Ohio also has three Central Park benches.
On a side note - there are some Alice in Wonderland statues in Central Park as well.
Someone (name escapes me know) was once quoted as saying "Central Park is the Crystal Cube in the center of the Big Apple (New York City)" Just mentioning that.. as I found it whilst searching.

Wow, pretty conviencing evidence. I checked out this 360 shot. I couldn't see a path, but I'll take your word for it. Are there 5 sections with sand? I can't tell.
Here's a helpful map of the great lawn section of Central Park:
Also, some possible points of interest on the Great Lawn:

Just re digging in Central Park to be absolutely clear - it is prohibited.
Rules for filming in Central Park include the prohibition of
Quote:
Digging surfaces of any kind for any purpose.
Park Rules and Regulations includes provisions about damaging vegetation, etc.

Taken from the Central Park web site section on the Great Lawn:
"Today there are benches everywhere for spectators — of both people and sports. At the northeast corner, under a canopy of London plane trees, are four courts (one of which is reserved for youth basketball only); an 1/8 mile track surrounds the courts."
EDIT: I see now that they are PLANE trees and not PLAIN trees from my previous post.
Well Rose - a guy can dream, can't he? Geez, the man and his RULES! Always trying to beat us down! "Can't dig in Cental Park" GEEZ

Just because the cube almost certainly isn't in CP, that doesn't mean we should just give up on the area. There could still be a clue (that doesn't require digging) that might help in the search, especially since so much evidence has been presented for CP.
[sarcastic bystander] "Okay mister smartguy86, what would this clue be?" [/sarcastic bystander]
*classyguy86 scratches head, runs away*
I don't know, but maybe in the area where we had thought the cube would be, there could be some kind of sign pointing us to our next step.

"And in other news tonight, 57 seperate cases of vandalism as people from around the world were found digging holes all over Central Park today. 56 of them claim they were looking for an artifact cube. The remaining person was hauled away whilst screaming "IT'S THE #$%! GOPHERS! THEY HAVE TO BE STOPPED!!!!". Authorities for the Central Park Department of Public Relations were quoted as say "It's the craziest thing we have ever seen. They were all over the place, running around with shovels and digging up everything in sight." A Cental Park ranger, who wished to remain anonymous said "If they wanted the friggin Cube they should have check the New York Public Library... Sheesh! The clues are RIGHT THERE!!!!!" We'll bring you more on this story as it unfolds.

With all the rampant spec making holes in my brain, I don't think I made myself clear:
I don't actually think the Cube is in CP. I think that the last mystery may be. Please don't dig in central park, new yorkers are very protective

Hehe- I think that the rules prohibit any gardening implements. But I don't think anyone would arrest you for walking across the park with some pruning shears in your pocket.

Are those pruning shears in your pocket or are you just...
...sorry
I think Central Park is simply a case of us picking somewhere we'd like the cube to be and then forcing clues to fit. Rather than the other way around.
I'm taking the no-digging rules as my cue to move on.

I'm going to crawl back into my little hole. (The little hole that I dug in Central Park - seems the Feds are looking for me now. This is the only safe place to hide)
Seriously - I thought about that last night. With all the information on the internet you are correct. You can make ANY clue fit for ANY location - all you have to do is dig (pun intended).
Like I said before, when the cube is found SOMEONE will shake their head and say "I was so close!"
So - screw Central Park and NYC! I am throwing a dart at a map and now we will spec on........ MERRIMACK, New Hampshire!
Did you know they have a park AND a library in MERRIMACK, New Hampshire? Hmmm .... did ya? And they have a book on Shakespeare there too! The local hardware store has a sale on shovels this week... we must be close!!!
Cheers!
