[LGFL] Lawn Games for Life
If it looks like a rabbit hole...

Just got a comment on this post of my blog. Part of it reads:

Quote:
Say, I think that you might be a cousin of a cousin, by marriage. Are you related to any Williams by any chance?

Keep up the dedicated work....and please help us find our dearly departed Aunt's special fancy heirloom.

Going to the poster's profile leads to several sites, including:

http://www.lawngamesforlife.com/
http://deathandhonor.blogspot.com/

Apparently, Aunt Anna has died, and we need to go through some trials to find some heirloom of hers? Blog? Timewaster? I don't have time to look it over until tonight, so I thought I'd give y'all a heads up now.

[EDIT] Slightly changed and tagged topic, moved to Potentials --Gisk

Re: The Washburn Girl

{{{Pic included below as attachment}}}

Dear Darling Taylor,

Did you know that you were named after the street in Old Town where your parents first met each other? It's still such a lovely street and is the entrance to Old Town, birthplace of California and also the Ravelo family. I know that you of everyone in our family appreciates the connection between person and place, and that's why I'm trusting you to lead this journey.

Please try to get everyone - the Ravelos, the Garcias, the Souzas, the Fremonts / Williams - to understand these old stories that illuminate how I came to be the person I was and am and how I acquired the treasure in St. Augustine, FL that everyone wants. Here is one story about something that touched me when I was a very young lady, still living with your Great Grandparents. You and your relatives should call for more information when you understand.

A little girl that I used to babysit died in a terrible accident while she was playing in an old house near Taylor Street with some other Anglo kids. Legend has it that the house was built over an old cemetery, so the ghosts from there or the nearby gallows must have caused the accident. That little Washburn girl visited me in my dreams my whole life and still haunts the old house to this very day. A friend of mine told me that the little girl's ghost left this cryptic message on the wall in chaulk: KFG QKW JPL JGB HEK PQL QHR BPQ KOB U. Strange indeed, but I like imagining her playing with some leftover chalk and practicing her letters and being overcomed by laughter.

All My Love,
Aunt Anna

It isn't a rot.... but i dont' have time before work to check on anything else. Also, there is an In-Game forum it seems...

Awwww according to the explaination thread on there
Quote:
If you want to go across the finish line, plan of being in St. Augustine, FL at least 12/22-12/23. There will be a prize for all LGFL winners / players. There will be special prizes for winners from the winning family/team (see below). I can't tell you exactly where/when to be or what you must bring - you'll have to play the game to discover that information!
ALSO
Quote:
In the game, players divide themselves up into 4 teams. Each team is represented by a different branch in Anna Ravelo's extended family. Players can also freely float between teams or play on their own. But only the family/teams earn points.
Emphasis added by me to point out team hopping - ship sinking, jump anytime? I have not seen yet how to align yourself with a family, i am assuming just to choose one when you start playing and always include it in email responses. So shall we here at unfiction all agree on one family {therefore at least as a group we can play together?}

With a little research, I found a TV show, Tales of Wells Fargo, that had an ep called "That Washburn Girl". Highly doubt it's anything but just figured I'd mention it.

I did look up on google maps the intersection Rosecrans & Taylor St. (Map attached) and found this: http://gocalifornia.about.com/cs/sandiego/a/whaley.htm.

Source of our legend: "A girl by the last name of Washburn is said to have died in an accident at the house, perhaps while playing with the Whaley kids. Guests have reported seeing the young girl playing throughout the house."

Been trying to crack the little girl's code. Ran it through Vigenere with various keys, Atbash, keyboard, etc and now working on random simple substitutions. grr.

I've been working on it too, as I have time - I tried treating each 3-letter grouping as one letter and randomly assigned a letter value to them (if you want my logic on this, pm me) and came up with:

X-B-O-S-X-H-J-R-Y, and am working under the assumption the "U" is a punctuation mark.

I'm not as good at ciphers as I am at research though.

A friend of mine told me that the little girl's ghost left this cryptic message on the wall in chaulk...

Is chaulk simply a typo, or does the extra U tell us something?

Joining a family

It looks like you can join a family by going to the forum and clicking on usergroups. You'll have the option of joining anyof the family groups.

http://www.lawngamesforlife.com/discuss/groupcp.php
You'll need an account, of course.

EDIT: OOps! I 'm using the wrong account. I'll switch over to RI_Barnica now.

wait and see who got the answer in first/more correct, i suppose?
it sounds like the smarts points only go to whichever team answers correctly first, but the next puzzle will unlock for everyone.
so, whoever gets the points, that means a location puzzle to noodle over soon.

Started posting on the Ravelos area. Hoping it swings north to encomapass the history of the California capitol, before moving east.

If the PM does what she says in some other things I found, it will be quite an accomplishment.

EDIT: Also, can't wait to find out what the "Lawn Games For Life" theme is all about.
