[NEVEC][Story So far....]

*spoiler warning* should u choose to read this you should be under the assumption that little spoiler boxes will not appear. Tough want to do the arg without help be my guest. ****note if u feel I should make changes feel free to pm me with any grammar errors or additions u feel are needed. And by all means build my low ego with comments like gj hawk, or NICE HAWK I want to have Ur children. Comments like wow hawk u suck. Well ill just say u can burn.
Thanks to Argodaemon: for a handy spell check button and for adding a link somewhere in there to
boyblue:MASSIVE editing and in some cases translation of hawkese.

Three "webisodes" were released in preparation for the release of the XBOX 360 game Lost Planet. Aside from showing a few story bits from the game, each webisode flashes a message at the end.

Those have been:
111
neovenusconstruction.com
Hint Upset Eve

As the meaning behind 111 seems to be rather ambiguous, I'll begin with the revelation of Neo Venus Construction, our current trailhead.

Hidden among the source code of the second page in the NEVEC website were the words "Nice, you found it. Come back soon as there will be a lot more to come", one of the first of many confirmations that this was an ARG. The website also listed the need for four new positions, their requirements, and links to user/password protected areas.

Hint Upset Eve was quickly found to be an anagram for Venus Epithet. Through some hard work and quick thinking, lisak found out that logins were in fact combinations of the listed job ID numbers, which were all statistics (such as volume, mass, etc) linked with the planet Venus, and epithets for the goddess Venus.

Example: For the Security Operations Manager login, the job ID number is 6052, which is also the radius of the planet Venus and our password. The login is usually an epithet that has connection to the job and through some research, we come up with Venus Armata meaning Armed Venus.

The found login/passwords [thanks again lisak!]:

Terraforming - cloacina : volume.
Medical Tech - genetrix : mass
Defense Tech - armata : radius
Industrial Tech - caelestis : velocity

The reward for hours of mindless crosscheck and plugging in different combinations? A bunch of strange looking pictures…

While interesting and strange, their significance hasn't been identified hidden letters.http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17446&start=15
As stated in the forum post above the numbers in the picture for the IT position also match with the exact coordinates to an exact location in downtown San Francisco which is the corner of fillmore and herman (yes this is diffrent from earliar discoveries in the forum, for an explanation see xnbomb Google Maps lat/long link
Theories vary between a traffic jam to the end of the world.

Other sites discovered:
Neo Venus Construction - Trailhead.
Tourbit Aerospace - Second website found. Describes a company working with NeoVenus. Upper lefthand box displays a Braille message which usually is used to encourage players or give out hints. Also listed are few events that occur regularly throughout the month. Some have theorized that this may be significant in the game although nothing has occurred yet.

Antarctic Terraforming Research Project - Linked on the NEVEC Terraforming site.

Thermal Regulator - Linked in the Alfred Alan's Blog. The site is kept up by an unidentified entity working on developing a thermal regulator. He mentions he has been contacted by Alfred Alan. Placing your mouse over the diagram plays a voice message: "There gonna make me sign off on this project, and I'm not ready." Apparently there have been problems found with the regulator, while not specified it seems to have some very bad results when it's not working properly. The device is currently being tested by the Antarctic Terraforming Research Project team. A message in the source code of the December post on the [ARTP site was found saying "Don't worry, we will work out the bugs with the tiny toaster.".

Alfred Alan's Blog - Found in the source code of the Antartic Research Project Leads site. Kept up by the lead of the Antarctic research project, Alfred Alan, it has been bountiful with hidden source code messages. His YAHOO IM [YIM] nick was found in an error page's source. YIM: alfredalannevec [Details on messages can be viewed in the NEVEC Wiki]

While players have been keeping in contact with Alfred, he has continued to update his blog, eventually leading to yet the biggest source code discovery [shortly after the logins puzzle was partially solved]:22-3-7-34-3-22-9-30 - a key for more to come

mfir determined it to be the key for a substitution cipher by combining it with the name Neo Venus [N(22)-E(3)-O(7)-V(34)-E(3)-N(22)-U(9)-S(30)]. It was proven when Alfred sent a mass IM containing the following: 32-3-1-4-12 5-18-18-7-10-5-4-1-18 12-7-28-6-3-30

After spending way too much time awake, Argo and CrackerJak came up with a solution translating the message into: Teach Illogical Hordes. Argo later linked a decoding excel spreadsheet for later uses. Get it here.

Immediately suspected as an anagram and an answer was found soon after by Ofiuco: GHIRADELLI CHOCOLATES. This is a famous chocolate company located in San Francisco, and due to the fact that the name is misspelled in the code, we were once thrown down a long road of intrigue. After messaging Alfred "Ghiradelli Chocolates", the plot finally picked up again, and we got an update after dormancy for a week. Alfred has since apologized for the slight spelling error.

Theories
Alfred has mentioned several business trips, including one to San Francisco and planning to visit The Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, and Wax Museum. This may lead to live player-character interaction.

*New Update*

At around 1 am EST alfred signed online, and the 3 of us in the nevec chatroom engaged in conversation with him, the following exchanges occurred.

Quote:
argodaemon: Hello Alfred, long time no see!
alfredalannevec: hello sir
argodaemon: Poor Phil, I think you are going to give him a stroke.
alfredalannevec: I very nearly did with Chocolate Bomb
alfredalannevec: he needs a rest - we all do
argodaemon: he thought he was being smart...
argodaemon: but you are smarter
alfredalannevec: for now when one door closes
argodaemon: he must not be at the office too much for you to be able to plant the chocolate all the time? Does he take extended lunches or something?
alfredalannevec: He's one of those people who has a pretty specific schedule - always takes lunch at 12 - goes for a run at 3 - never in before 8, but never later than 8:15
argodaemon: ha, he exercises at work?
alfredalannevec: we have showers there is more I can't share now
argodaemon: ah
argodaemon: How's Akemi the demon cat doing? Staying out of trouble I hope?
alfredalannevec: he just walked by actually - he ran his drills for the night
alfredalannevec: so he is calm right now
argodaemon: for all the destrution he causes when you are at work, it must be hell to control him when you are home.
alfredalannevec: He loves me when I am home
alfredalannevec: I think he just misses me when I am out
argodaemon: Do you have a webcam at your place? It might be a good idea to keep an I on the cat at work. If you know what he gets into, you may be able to prevent it a little more.
alfredalannevec: I just bought a door jam
alfredalannevec: so that I can lock him in the bathroom better
alfredalannevec: hopefully that will solve the problem
argodaemon: haha, sad you have to do that to a cat
alfredalannevec: he gets run of the house when I am home
alfredalannevec: and I am hopinf he grows out ofit
argodaemon: I don't own a cat (slight allergy) but I know that they will... It just takes a LONG time.
alfredalannevec: yup - I must show the utmost patience
argodaemon: Your patience seems to be running a little slim at the workplace lately...
alfredalannevec: Too much to do in too short a time
alfredalannevec: but we will push forward and hopefully make our deadline
alfredalannevec: I just am figuring there will not be much Christmas [/b]vacation this year
alfredalannevec: which is sad
alfredalannevec: Sad My time is running short
argodaemon: Atleast your christmas shopping is done... more then I can say.
alfredalannevec: hehehe - I should get going
alfredalannevec: havea good night
argodaemon: goodnight!

blackhawk: so have you found a way to tie down that demon cat
blackhawk: any new havoc caused
Alfred Alan: I bought a door jam It's getting strange around here
blackhawk: that should minimize problems

CrackerJak had this response:

Alfred Alan: yup - great movie I think someone is watching me

While these conversations may seem harmless and usual closer inspection of them is needed. The bolded messages above were typed with the font color white. This hid them in the back ground of the YIM chat box. These messages were found when we were copy and pasting our alfred chats in the chatroom. (argodaemon made the original discovery)

After this moment please check your conversations with alfred for anymore hidden text messages.

OK HUGE updates today
it all started with an away msg when Alfred signed on today it read 11 10 42 --- 4-12-9-28-4-12-5-18-18
This decodes to 11/10/42 Churchill
This refers to a speech by Churchill given on that date linky
*this was confirmed by asking him later on*
Blog updates of Alfred
The following words were found in the source code for Alfred's latest blog update:
Deadline has an interesting etymology
Quote:
The sense of deadline meaning a time limit was originally newspaper jargon and first appears in 1920. It is an Americanism. It may derive from printing jargon referring to a guide that is placed on the press to keep the type in place. This sense appears a few years earlier.
The sense meaning a line around a prison where the prisoner's will be shot if they cross it, comes from the 1860s and prison camps during the American Civil War. The angling sense dates to 1860 or perhaps a bit earlier. These may or may not have had an influence on the newspaper term.

I must admit, the more I think about this party the more I feel like Bilbo on his birthday, I just want to put on the damned ring and disappear!
I know there are a lot of people out there who have asked me about NeVeC. If you want to see what they are REALLY about I can help you crash the big party. Besides the more eyewitnesses I have there, the better, right? Go to ARTP and you will find answers there.

The ARTP site led us to an update at the bottom of the front page from the "southy boys" and after examination of the source code in the page marked project leads the link is given.
www.neovenusconstruction.com/frontierproject/party
*this link leads to a password blocked site pass and username pending*

Next on our list of updates
2 more links are found leading to the same supposed press release
http://www.tourbitaerospace.com/pr.html (located on the tourbit cocktail mixer at the bottom of the page on the right.)

http://www.neovenusconstruction.com/pr_111.html (located bottom right on the front page)
however on the tourbit site careful examination of the Braille window *only viewable on the press release page* the msg
Quote:
Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
quoted from genesis 1:11, hmm that number again.

It's been a while but Alfred has finally shown life once again, due to our monitoring of the site www.lisak.org/nvc (lisak rocks) it was discovered that the error page for www.thermalregulator.com had been changed. The source code of the page displayed the message
Quote:
You will find him in error.

This message led to a change on the error page on Alfred's blog site at the very bottom of the source code page. This message led us to a youtube posting.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXFzQrR_ch4

*update*
after attending the launch party a couple people noticed some odd chocolate wrappers listing the words
watch for me! 21:00
alfredalan.com/111
this new site is recently created, and is like a seprate secret blogging area for alfred.

After a loooooooooong silence from Alfred we began to receive messages on his blog once again. While it is apparent that NEVEC has officially removed him from the company we were soon left wondering what would happen next. Alfred would soon answer that wondering with a new code left on his blog. hg dz bo vg bb qo il pe cq fk ol bt ol br sr ti fe oi pr ls do le op pi xk rt uo lb tm ot ia ly io cl lg. After a week of trying to crack this code most people began to believe it to be a Playfair cipher, but the fact that the letters bb were placed together ruined this assumption. Amazingly the pm's responded by changing the message to a Playfair cipher. Soon the old message disappeared and in its place a new one appeared.
Quote:
That's what I get for messing with something I wasn't ready to use - I hate being impatient - LI MW FS VG CY BS PN LQ CA LC NZ LB PO LB AQ MQ LC FQ LQ DC HD SF US TG MA CF DQ QR CU VK PN KS FZ QL EL QL QF IL IZ - The key is in Pleasantville.

the source code now showed the messages
Quote:
he knows the SUN ARMIES

Quote:
and the SUN ARMIES know HIM.

These 2 messages were originally assumed to be a clue to the cipher keyword, but this may not be a proper solve yet.

Now back to the end of this blog posting
Quote:
The key is in Pleasantville.
After reading through the comments page for the science link it was soon discovered that an AA from Pleasantville had left a message
Quote:
http://www.clearlight.com/~mhieb/WVFossils/ice_ages.html - this site charts solar activity and compares it to earth temperatures. Solar Calf.
Most of this message proved to be useless, however the end of it became very useful. The words Solar Calf refer to an ancient Babylonian god named Marduk, whose name literally translates to "Solar Calf." Marduk soon proved to be the keyword needed to complete the Playfair cipher, and the message reads
I have to keep this brief. The other project is related to number six from the outside sitchinx.

Confusion soon erupted over what sitchin was or for the matter that Sitchin is. The answer is Zechariah Sitchin is the author of a best selling book detailing the theoretical existence of a 12th planet outside our solar system named Nibiru. Interestingly enough Niburu is also a celestial body or region sometimes associated with the god Marduk.

message from alfredalannevec

This message popped up in my YIM today (I have no thoughts yet)....

[22:38] alfredalannevec: not much time to chit chat - always on the move - planet x isn't important to what we are doing but proper names are.

Planet X is

From this crazy website I found via google
http://www.versionist.com/religions-universe/1079-what-planet-x-why-isnt-being-reported-news-media-how-will-affect.html)
this link between the YIM message and the post....

"Planet X is a planet that the ancient Sumerians referred to as "Nibiru." This ancient Sumerian word literally means "Planet Of The Crossing." The Sumerians gave it this name because every 3,630 years Planet X crosses Earth's orbit. The Sumerians counted it as the twelth planet in our solar system because they regarded both the Sun and Moon as planets. (Photo of Sumerian tablet, dated 4,500 B.C., shows 11 planets orbiting the sun. One represents Earth's moon. The 10th is Planet X.)

However, modern astronomers have dubbed it as Planet X, meaning that it is the tenth planet in our solar system, the "X" standing for "ten." Planet X has a highly elliptical orbit, rather than the usual circular orbit, more resembling the orbit of a comet than of a planet. It's orbit carries it far out into space, far beyond our known solar system, but then every 3,630 years it returns to the inner solar system and crosses the orbit of Earth."

Unfortunately all of that information was known and found more then a week ago. But you are right and did catch it quite quick! Take a look at the other Nevec thread. We could definitely use some help!
