Well I haven't received a response yet, but it is interesting to note that the latest email from Sam to Dale (received after I wrote the Mayor) does indeed suggest the Mayor knows something and is concerned about the "situation" and its effect on local gov't.

So I guess we wait and see...

BTW, my real name is not Cemilita Gatenza...lol..just thought I'd try to "fit" the name with my email addy.

My reply from the Mayor to the above email I sent him:

Dear Ms. Gatenza:

Hey, I'm really not certain why I'm getting swamped with requests for
information about Dale and his family all of a sudden. I can't tell you how
many e-mails I've had to answer or have my assistant answer for me in the last few days. Everyone seems to be exxagerating the extent of Dale's problem, I think. Although I haven't spoken to him directly in a few days, I believe his current situation may be categorized more as "seeking help", rather than "institutionalized" and I'm certain you can understand the necessity of it under the circumstances.

I'm also certain you understand how unfortunate this is for all of Aglaura.
We've been trying very hard to develop a new image for our beautiful but
sometimes misunderstood town and the last thing we need is for crazy and
exxagerated stories about one of our citizens (let alone a Councilman!) to hit the regional and local media. And of course, this wouldn't be good for Dale or his career either. So I'm asking you to exercise discretion in your efforts. Not everyone who knows or lives near Dale should be asked questions like this, do you think? Think of how that may affect him when he comes home. I tell you what, if you promise to forego further efforts to contact Aglaura people about this, I'll see if I can find out where Dale is staying. I'm sure he wouldn't mind contact from someone he's known for a long time. Is there a phone number that I might call you at to provide you this information? Please let me know.

Dear Mr. Mayor,

I can certainly understand the deluge of mail in regards to Mr. Sprague, he is an exxceptional young man with many friends. I'm sure most of them are well intentioned and from people who aren't sure how to contact Mr. Sprague exxcept via the government for which he worked.

I understand how "sensitive" the situation with Dale is to Aglaura, and I am well aware of the attempted image transformation of your town. I have no desire see your hard won reputation tarnished.

My primary concern at present is for Dale, and that being said, I'm sure you can see how I also desire discretion in this matter. His reputation is also at stake.

I will take you up on the offer to forego further efforts to contact anyone else in Aglaura regarding Dale or his whereabouts in exxchange for the information I requested. I assure you, although I cannot discuss the particulars due to confidentiality, my mission is a private legal matter that I do not desire to have made public.

I also agree that he would welcome a friendly face.

Please call me via the number listed below at your earliest convenience. I am in the office more than I am out these days, but if you happen to catch me at lunch please don't hesitate to leave a message with my assistant Mrs. A Glassman. She is entirely trustworthy and was my father's assistant before me.

Dear Ms. Gatenza:

Sorry for the delay in replying to you but I am a rather busy man, what with running a town and all. I'm sure you understand. I was also somewhat hesitant to pursue the matters we discussed previously during standard working hours here at the Municipal Building. This is definitely not official Aglaura business. Which brings me to my point.

The number you provided me to call you at, can you be reached at that number after hours, say in-between 10:00 and 11:00PM or so? That of course would be Eastern time as I am in Jersey after all. I'm sorry for the somewhat unusual request but under the circumstances it might be best.
Please let me know as I would like to contact you as soon as possible and get this whole situation behind me.
