[META] Who else?(is upset about the exposure to Cloverfield) Yeah Yeah. Who else finds it sort of upseting that there is going to be so much exposer to Cloverfield in the next few weeks. I know that Paramount is trying to make money, but I've been in this since July, and it's like they're taking the fun from it. I wanted all these clues to be found and overturned by a group of well knit friends. People who actually took interest before Mtv stated gabbering about it. I am angry.
edit to change tag from [Disc] to [META] because I think that is more descriptive and to clarify subject. thanks for tagging your post though! ~rose

I'm not necessarily mad, but I definitely agree that it's kind of lame to see the marketing go this direction. I cringe at the mere thought of the commercialization that awaits. Mass exposure was inevitable, though. It definitely seems like Paramount is prepping for an even larger marketing campaign within the next month, so I guess we can only wait and see. On the other hand, it is kind of cool to finally be able to converse about the movie with people who for the last 5 or 6 months didn't know what the hell I was talking about.
I wouldn't sweat it too much though, Valv. Those of us who followed the whole ARE/G will just appreciate it that much more.

I'm going to watch the MTV stuff, I'm actually interested in what they have to say about it. Yeah, MTV sucks balls but at the same time I think we could get new clips out of the movie. They wouldn't spoil anything - or would they? Either way, I'm looking forward to the interviews and clips coming out in the next few weeks that are going to blow Cloverfield out of proportion.
The only thing that can beat it is the Hannah Montana tour, liek omg!!!!!!!!

Its not altogether surprising... Look, producers only makes movies they believe can make money. They will only make more monster movies if they know that monster movies have an audience. They learned from Snakes on a Plane that they cannot rely solely on internet/viral marketing for their return on investment. So it makes sense that JJ and Reeves would, in the final weeks before launch, do their best to widen the potential audience for their film. Consider it a mixed blessing: if you want more monster movies with skookem f/x in the future, you consent to traditional marketing.

you're..mad? Why? I want Cloverfield to get as much exposure as possible. I want Paramount to make tons of money on this film. Why? Because it'll make artistic freedom marketable, and we'll see more original movies like this. We'll see more directors and writers taking risks and being able to produce truly intriguing stories with a moderately decent budget.
You have to admit this is one of the most original films/ideas in hollywood in many many many MANY years. And knowing that it could open the door for other artistic ventures makes me happy.

if they are like this, then they are not original.
it was fun up until now with these interviews, now im just gonna wait for the movie instead of the next big piece of the puzzle. it just feels like its game over and im waiting for the ending to load.

Well, you know, if you are upset, there are other games around waiting to be played. I am sure that anyone who has enjoyed this ride so far will really enjoy what is happening with Dark Knight or Eldridge Errors. Both of those are giving the players solid content, story and well executed live events. I would be happy to see people from 1-18-08 migrate into those stories as well.
All that being said, I wouldn't give up on this just because more people will be finding out about it. We've had similar experiences with other promotions and it works out great. Often in these online experiences, the more people the better is really true.

Yeah I've been up on TDK for awhile and lets just say it isn't nearly as maddening as Cloverfield.
Now as for Cloverfield blowing up, of course it was gonna happen. We'll still get whatever clues they have planned for us and more people will actually know about the movie(probably bring more people in here and other message boards I would imagine, which is a shame cuz we're dealing with a bunch of trout already)
But needless to say I can't wait for one my friends to ask if I heard about Cloverfield here soon. Or even better a damn now I know what you where talking about.
As for original, with the exception of an original monster, I highly doubt there is much groundbreaking cinema here. The viral campaign is cool but it's not like thats original it's just helped Alternate Reality solidify itself.

Just as much of modern radio, rock and roll, and music in general since 1981.
I'd say they have had a great track record of ruining things.
