Re: [META] Forum Organisation Read me (or not, if you like surprises).

We propose splitting the subforum into three main areas:
General/Updates - for general spec, updates to the sites etc.
Press/Reference - for press articles and for all those lovely bits of reference that have been carefully, beautifully, constructed.
Movie Discussion (spoilers) - will contain all discussion about the movie. If you don't want to have things spoiled for you, then no need to go in. Conversely, anything spoilery posted anywhere else can be transferred there.
Best Idea Ever! . . . cause I have really become wary looking into some of the topics cause I feel the spoilers may be there already . . .

I like the idea, too...
People have their preference on topic, and obvously will stay in the section that appeals to them most.
I myself have become more of a lurker, and tend to pay attention to the news updates, like interviews, commercial/marketing updates, etc...
no need for me to go into the Spoilers section, or any other, really...
Great!

I like the idea.... ..it will be much better than having to scroll through page after page of topics, trying to catch up at work after your home computer goes on the fritz and you're jonesing for a Cloverfield update and feel that if you don't get online NOW, that you will miss a TON of stuff, especially since time is close, and then, when you DO get online, your worst fears have been realized, leaving you to forget about your mounting work, and instead, read through all of the new topics and updated posts, etc. Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!
I'm sorry, what was the question?
Seriously, though, I like the idea. Go with it!

I wish there was some sort of punishment for Trouting.
I think Trouters should banned from creating new topics for a week. This wouldn't limit discussion, because they could still comment in an existing threads, and if it was necessary, someone else could create a new thread (but it usually isn't necessary)

maybe, but that would invoke fear into the hearts of many newcomers to not post topics, even if they don't think it's a trout. i.e. they searched wrong

That's good. Most people shouldn't create new topics, they should post in existing topics. There are WAY too many Trout topics. We don't need 6 topics discussing what you got in you Slusho order. One is fine. People don't need to create a new topic just to ask a question, there is a Q & A topic....etc.

There is no problem with creating new topics, it's a good thing. It's great if these are not something that has been posted before or would do better continuing discussion in another thread, but trouts are inevitable. It's better to have a new player post a trout, get a trout and then not post one again rather than being chucked in the sin bin on their first post - it's not very welcoming.
The mods will tag and bag them and you can all look the other way - think of us as fish-processing factory ships in the Thread Sea.
Spacely posted something about trouts here , that explains his philosophy on the matter.

like said in one of the stickies i think, when signing up they have to watch the "How To Use Search" from ABS, and then read Euchres sticky before they can ever post a new topic
discussion is good, but not when you can't find the right thread in a sea of trout

Very good idea. I also think, after 18th January this forum will be more and more frequented by people.

Remember, it's still the 1-18-08 FORUM, but there are now SUBForums to help organize threads into the PRESS, SPOILERS and GENERAL/META areas.
In addition to pushing folks to learn how to Search , we like to encourage new folks to review the POSTING GUIDELINES that are also stickied at the top of the forum (HINT HINT) so they still properly [TAG] new threads.
