 		Heh, I got this too. And truth be told, I've managed to get all the way to the end of the currently-available pages.

(I have to wonder, though - considering a couple of the linked pages, is this PM the same guy who worked on Ketsui Chan? The pages in question do have that sort of vibe to me . . . )

I like the whole infinate thing...

I suspect it might be the same guy who did Ketsui Chan - as he told me that I have played some of the other games he has done - and I was looking into Ketsui when it got shut down!

I am excited to see where this goes - I wonder what this whole fuck tinag is? I think that he has the right idea though Wink

I read it as someone who hates the TINAG philosophy. Unfortunately, I think what they want to create isn't really an ARG in the tinag sense, but an art project. p.s., as a trailhead, i did find it to be entertaining, with a variety of codes in there as red herrings. Oh, and the one youtube video about the zombie reality game was great, thanks for pointing me there.

 		Well I wonder where this notion came from that just because something does not employ the tinag concept makes it not an ARG?

I think the GM is making a good point (albeit a little less on the insulting might work a bit better - but I am sure there is something to it).

I personally think the concept of tinag is flawed. I mean if it is for the characters to behave like characters that kind of goes without saying - I mean it would be like a character in a movie looking at the camera and saying 'this is a movie' of course the character thinks it is real that is the whole point!

If it's for the players - of course they will play like it is real - that is role playing - if they didn't they would be calling the cops when a car gets stolen or some one gets killed!

And if it is just meant to acentuate that the game is supposed to be realistic I think a better moniker could be used. I mean IT IS A GAME. And how are you supposed to play something if you don't know it is a game?

I am not sure how this GM's points all tie in together - but I have been chatting with him/her and I suspect it will become clear eventually.

I was drawn to this genre in the first place because I saw it as an opportunity to be artistic and free - bending and breaking the rules that we are locked into in our everyday lives. Now I fully understand that some sort of structure is needed to create a game world - however I don't think the ARG genre should be so limited as to suggest that just because a person is saying it is a game that their art should fall outside of the bounds of ARG land. I think that is taking a very limited viewpoint for what I see as a limitless medium!

(All comments above are strictly IMO and I am a scientifically minded person which means if I am offered a logical alternative to the way I think I will gladly accept it! Feel free to enlighten me Smile

Perhaps you should read up on the definition of TINAG. It doesn't have anything to do with the players. Wink

I believe TINAG is absolutely needed. After all, if they characters realize they're just characters in a game, they cease to exist, as does the game world. There are some places that characters just can't be allowed to go, such as UnFiction itself, as this will show them that they are in a game. TINAG is needed to keep the alternate reality from crashing down around its ears. However, this is a little too META for a trailhead thread Very Happy

And I have heard people refer to tinag as a concept that umbrella's players as well - there seem to be quite a few thoughts on the matter actually.

But I still believe that the genre should not be limited like that.

I don't think the game should have to come crashing down if a character became self aware. That is kind of like saying our reality ceased to exist when we as a species became self aware. I think a self aware character could be build into the game form without the universe crashing and burning. I believe that ARG's should be flexible enough to accomadate any eventuality. Hence the 'interactive' part of it. If something doesn't go as planned should the plan not be changed?

I like how this GM is questioning the 'norms' and expanding the boundaries. I think it can be just as entertaining either way!

Anyone else sent any art in?
