[RING] need=translation

First, I am very impressed about all the translation work people have don at the wiki ...
...but...
...there are still so many blog entries not translated.

http://olympics.wikibruce.com/Category:Translation_Needed

Looking at the chapter translations, I guess, there should be enough Spanish, Portuguese and Japan speaking people to translate some blog entries (even though the chapter messages are not that important).

Else I am not sure, if it makes sense to copy all the blog messages to the forum (which is also some work)

Or should I try to use google translations to have at least some ideas

Is there any good way to subscribe to a feed of new translations? I don't have time to follow recentchanges on the wiki..

not sure what you mean by a 'feed of new translations'. Finished, or needing translation?

You can view this page http://olympics.wikibruce.com/Category:Translation_Needed to see the outstanding list...
I don't think mediawiki has a way to cross-check categories...
hmm... perhaps I could add a category for each language where translation is needed. I think it may be pretty easy too.

ETA: there we go, quick fix. follow the link above to get to the categories listing specific language pages needing translation. That should help a bit

I'm looking for some way to find new translations (to English) when they're done. The more important ones get posted here, but it'd be nice to be able to follow them all.

I think I have an idea what's being requested, because it sounds like what I've been wishing for...my RSS feed reader will tell me, for example, when you post to the wiki that Meihui has a new blog entry, say. However, it does not tell me when that entry has been translated into English so I can actually get something out of that blog entry. He can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that kind of notification is what joeyhess is looking for. I don't know if it's technically feasible, though...I suppose there must be some way to monitor the change history of the entire wiki, but not sure if that would be helpful.

yeh I gathered that in the last post, and yeh, it's technically a little more complex to accomplish Razz

you could either follow the recentcanges page/rss, or you could specifically track changes for the page you want - it'll notify you when it's edited.
that's about all I got. otherwise, someone would have to manually make notifications that something has become translated. I'd recommend the page watching method...

The problem is that those of us on here who are bilingual (or who can at least fake it well *cough*me*cough*) are mostly Spanish/English, German/English or French/English. There are fewer Japanese/English speakers and even fewer Mandarin/English speakers. And I have so far met only two Esperanto/English speakers.

So most of the stuff that needs to get translated falls on three or four people.

For some of the languages that is really true, you're right.. Maybe there are some people listed in the translation thread which might be able to help..

Some languages, like Mandarin, we're in desperate need of work... Especially since its a language of one of our 6. We need to get the translations done for their community.

With some of the popular languages, we're only missing a page here or there...

Maybe we can get some help on at least finishing up the Codex, even though we still have Blog needs, the Codex is high importance.

Check out the direct links to the categories which need translation. If there is a Codex page, it'll be listed there. Not every blog entry from all chacters has every need translation on it.

I've done a lot and now there remain only three video-linked entries of Noriko's blog:
http://olympics.wikibruce.com/Category:Translation_Needed_Japanese

But these videos are long ... does anybody possibly know any of these three videos have been translated into English?

Especially I wonder if the first video has been already translated. This is the very first video of Noriko, where she says she needs help.
I participated in FTLR at the end of March, so I don't know much about the beginning of FTLR.

There's this tool that converts flv to mp3, all done without installing anything,
provided that it's on youtube: http://flvto.com/
It's great for those who's on dial-up/slow connection, and what you get is just the mp3(lower file size) for a quick translation without having to wait for the whole video.

Now the three videos have been done! Rumiko helped me a lot!

But when will the flag "need=translation" disappear?

Bryanflurry, I tried the tool. Very interesting!

EDIT: I'm sorry the above was very misleading. I've removed the flag need=translation from the pages after translation, but the page "Noriko" has no flags to remove, so the page still remains in the list. So I thought there's a hidden need=translation flag.
