[INFO][META] Didn't see a phone [at the coords]? Look it up!

If you've been to an intersection marked from the coordinates, go to this site:

http://payphone-directory.org/
Click on the state and look for the city, then the road.

For example:
I visited the Virginia Beach location and saw two banks and a waffle place. Then I looked at the site, clicked on Virginia, scrolled down to Virginia Beach and found... that theres a payphone in Waffles and Things on Laskin Road! (Laskin road is also Highway 58

So, if you didnt seea phone at the coordinate, check it there.

Thanks

[INFO] Found a payphone

Just wanted to let y'all know that the Atlanta site has a pay phone in an almost identical spot to the coords. This is all the information that was there:

404-881-8316.................................Between 1421 & 1439 Peachtree St NE*

Marduk, even if you don't see a pay phone, keep looking Smile

The Santa Cruz, CA spot has 2 payphones, some vending machines, a palm tree or two, beach access, and a bee-themed arcade machine directly inside the arcade it's adjacent to, as well as a spider-themed game approx. kitty-corner from the bee one.

[SPEC] It's probably payphones

After studying the locations online very carefully, and reading Dana's blog today, I'm pretty sure a lot of them are at payphones.

One tipoff with the San Diego Zoo location. If you look carefully at the spot , it's not directly at the entrance, it's actually a little to the left as you enter. According to the online map, the only thing of interest there is a payphone bank. It's probably one of these two numbers: 619-238-9734 or 619-238-9735.

The other tipoff is the make up of the locations. The places tend to be amusement parks, museums, shopping malls, McDonalds, fronts of apartments, nightclubs, and large stores like Wal-Mart. These all tend to have payphones at them.

I expect we'll be hearing Melissa's new voice come Tuesday.

I'm inclined to agree with this as well. I vaguely recall that the original coordinates that pointed to remote locations (dirt road?) have been disappeared in the latest update. The one location I visited by Lloyd Center in Portland does have a payphone outside of the theatre there, which I only considered after I'd left.

If this is likely or even just possibly the case (and on the Meta side it would be logistically much easier for the PMs to coordinate), I'd suggest anyone heading to the locations bring either an audio recording device or something on which to jot quick notes, just in case there are different messages for each location or groups of locations. Also, be prepared to fight over the phone receiver if you're doubling up at a location with someone else. Wink

As I posted in a previous thread.

Good Googly Moogly!!

Here's the clues I'm going with:
1. The lyrics to T-U-R-T-L-E Power (a clue from the SP) include references to pay phones.
2. "It's your CALL" !!!!
3. I looked up the point closest to me at the payphone lookup and lo and behold there's one right on the spot.

From the FAQ here:

Quote:
In the United States, the answer is generally yes. In Canada, the answer is generally no. There are also many other circumstances which affect whether phones will take calls. Some COCOT companies set all their phones to refuse them. Other companies use the location of a phone as a guideline. Phones is places that are believed to be "high crime areas" tend to block incoming calls. There realy isn't a very good way to predict if a phone accepts them or doesn't. In the Pay Phone Directory, phones that do not accept incoming calls have a * before their number. That way you can know if you should bother to call it.

I have one of those suction cup thingers (and yes, that's the technical name) that you put on the back of the phone so you can plug it into a recording device. I'll have to look and see if I have a recording device to plug it into though. (i'm probably going to the milwaukee location, btw)

4. Crap!, according to the phone lookup, the phones at 3. don't accept incoming.

Here's another site that had more/other numbers (at least for my area, including the axon where I know there's a pay phone).

[QUESTION] ringing?

If a payphone rings on your end when you call it, does that mean that it accepts incoming calls? I just tried the one in Atlanta, and it rang four times.

whoa... if you click on missouri, the city of Sedalia has an inordinate number of payphones listed. I don't know about you guys, but I can't chalk that up to coincidence.

Also, the first St. Louis location I checked matches almost exactly with a payphone listed on that site.
