Hoopeston Documentary Since we aren't clear yet on whether or not the Hoopeston Documentary is IG or OOG I'm gonna go ahead and post this. If it's determined later that this is unrelated to TIMM feel free to delete this thread.
I added my email address to the Hoopeston Documentary mailing list to let me know when it was available. Shortly before 4pm EST on 12/21/08 I received this email:
Hi everyone,
You're receiving this email because you asked to be notified when the documentary Hoopeston became available.
Instead of releasing the film on DVD, we've decided to put it online for free. You can watch it here:
http://www.synydyne.com/projects/hoopeston/watch/
Enjoy!
-Tom

Nice! Thanks for that! About 4 minutes in, the first reference of basketball (not counting the obvious Hoopeston!). I don't think it's IG, but if it turns out to be, this ARG could be even bigger than we've been thinking: to produce this documentary (which seems very legit), to the sole purpose of an ARG, would probably be very, very expensive.

Vermilion County, huh? Looks like another major reference to the color red, if IG (and the more I watch, the more it feels like it might be).

I find the attitude of an ARG player very amusing (myself included): this could be (or not) a perfectly legit documentary and I'm seeing the people in it as fictional characters, and trying to find a clue in every frame! Wouldn't it be awsome if this would be in fact IG?

Yea, it's nice to see their website got updated.
There's a Werewolf Battle project too, which looks pretty interesting. Synydyne really likes doing quirky projects.

Well, I just watched Hoopeston and while I wouldn't say the time was wasted, there's not much there for TIMM. It is perhaps the genesis of some of the ideas in TIMM, other than that, it's an okay documentary that promises conflict between fundamentalist Christians and Wiccans in a small, midwestern town, and really doesn't deliver.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
After an initial, bused-in protest, the town is so starved for commerce and jobs that they pretty much welcome the Wiccans. Yay.

If you check the front splash screen for Synydyne, you get a random picture. Some of them are the unaltered photos from the TIMM video (Black Star building without the star, a building without the Rupture class sign). Kind of neat.

strangely, this clip from the vide reminds me a lot of Hoopeston after watching that first part
eta: also, I'll add that the guy mentioned a while back in this post who has a youtube account and videos describing the "crytsal web" does in fact make his appearance in the hoopeston documentary.

Another one was from the Viewmaster sequence- "Remember the time before?" with the lady and the dogs. It disturbed me a little. Usually I like that kind of backstage stuff but I was really getting into this mystery.
Oh, and my 2cents- I think the Hoopeston docu and the trailhead videos and chapbook were made by the same people, but not directly related. You know, some ideas and concepts can be similar- coming from the same ideas and memories and taste- but be two distinct works. I'll definitely keep watching Synydyne. The How To videos are hilarious.

I really don't think the Hoopeston documentary is IG.
Synydyne's shorts "How Not To Get Mugged" and "How to Warm Coffee With Body Heat" seem like they'd be more likely to be IG than the Hoopeston doc. They're entertaining, but I'm really doubtful that these have anything do with the ARG.

Haha, ya know, if at the end of it all TIMM just ends up being a big promo for a new show or movie made by these guys, well, that'd just be alright IMHO.

Yeah, but what's weird is that the MTC is wholly fictional, right?

I wouldn't mind watching a full blown sci-fi movie about TIMM by Syndyne.

Yeah, I found it strange that it sounded like they created the "core new media elements" for a wholly NON-fictional entity. This is confusing. But awesome.
