Request to lock the original [39C] thread

I have tried in vain to encourage people posting in the 39Clues behemoth thread to channel their posts to topic-specific threads (e.g., card-trading; story speculation; minigames hints, etc.) but the original thread just keeps growing and growing out of control. Can it pretty-please be locked down so that discussion can happen in more focused ways?

thanks and have a great day.

A week later and my request for administration has been met with stony silence. If the decision is not to do anything about the thread, I'd appreciate word to that effect.

As a matter of policy, we don't lock topics because some users are not interested in seeing them continue. I apologize for not replying to your previous post sooner, but this policy is not something we tend to bend (or even restate).

If you'd like to see discussion structured in a different way, you can always start more topics, and organize/title them accordingly. I'm suggesting a sort of 'build it and they will come' type of approach, which is distinct from locking an existing topic and forcing a change.

I'm not trying to be difficult because I respect the fact the moderators can adjudicate issues on the forums as they see fit. However, I made the request that I did because I have seen multiple precedents for exactly this situation:
Lost Experience
Last Call Poker
Cloverfield
LG15
NyTakma

So I didn't see this situation as me as a random user wanting to impose my will on the forum, but rather as an interested forum member wanting to call the attention of the moderators to a situation that to my mind has an easy and reasonable remedy.

As to the second part, several additional topics *have* been created, and have seen very sparse traffic compared to the main behemoth thread. In fact, shortly after I made a request in the main thread to direct discussion to multiple threads, several additional threads were indeed created, including Online games and missions, Theories of clues how they are connected, and Trading Post, all created Dec 17, 2008.

Note that this occurred when the main thread was on page 101.

As of this evening, this thread is currently on page 138. That's 37 pages in that time compared to the more focused threads adding only 2, 3, and 1 pages.

As xnbomb explained, despite of what's been done in the past, we tend not to try and force users to use the forums in a specific way, yet let them decide for themselves what they think is best.

That said, I posted in that thread myself to try and nudge the folks to post outside of the monster thread. Also, I thought the amount of threads and posts for 39C warranted a seperate forum, so I moved everything there from CFwP, which will hopefully make it even easier to have discussion branch out.
