'Tron: Legacy' exclusive: Disney looks to Pixar for help;
hires screenwriters Michael Arndt and Brad Bird to beef up script

by Nicole Sperling

Joe Kosinski's Tron: Legacy is getting a little help from above.

EW.com has learned that the CG-extravaganza due out at the end of the
year received some key input from some very brilliant filmmakers, mainly
the elite brain trust at Pixar in Northern California. In late March,
the Tron filmmakers chose to show a very early working cut of
the film starring Garrett Hedlund and Jeff Bridges to Pixar's John
Lasseter, Ed Catmull, The Incredibles director Brad Bird, Toy
Story 3
screenwriter Michael Arndt, and others. The one-day
exercise was done in advance of some planned re-shoots scheduled for
June with the intent of beefing up the very things that Pixar is so good
at: character, emotion, and theme.

Following the screening — and other viewings with various live-action
filmmakers in Los Angeles — Disney hired Arndt and Bird to write some
pages for the upcoming re-shoots, which lasted six days last month. Original writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz
(Lost) were also integral in the writing at this time. "Tron
is very much Joe Kosinski's vision, a vision which is thrilling to me
and I hope is thrilling to the fans," said Sean Bailey, Disney's
president of production. "What I give Joe and the filmmaking team
immense credit for, is this was all born out of how do we give the fans
the best movie we can. We were very fortunate that Pixar wanted to play a
part in it."

So is this inter-studio collaboration a sign of things to come for
Disney, under the new regime of studio head Rich Ross and Bailey? The
answer seems to be yes. With Disney now essentially an umbrella company
for not only Pixar but Marvel and Dreamworks Studios too, it makes a lot
of sense. And Bailey, who was first a producer on Tron before
being hired by Disney in January, is certainly encouraged by the
positive experience of working with those famed filmmakers up north.
"Certainly being able to have an open dialogue with our formidable
partners in Pixar, Marvel, and Dreamworks is really interesting to me."

Tron: Legacy
will bow on Dec. 17.

Still not much at Disneyland. Just 1 small poster in the courtyard between Disney and California Adventure.

God knows this place may not be a bastion of good taste. Nonetheless:

That trailer for the first Tron is excellent. Whoever edited that has a talent for pacing and tension. I loved the original, but haven't seen it for years. Having seen that I will be watching it again by the end of the week. Is it available for download online anywhere, like iTunes?

Here's a rumor:

From Screamscape.com:

Disney's California Adventure

Park News - (8/2/10) I'm not sure how good of a rumor is, but according to one report sent in Disney may be planning on giving a large portion of the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area a new Tron theme later this year as a promotion for the new film. One possible plan right now is to turn the old Millionare soundstage into 'Flynn's Arcade'. A lot of the blacklight theme from GlowFest may stay to be converted into a Tron theme, and a possible scale sized Recognizer may be built to appear as if it was looming over Hollywood Blvd. Can anyone else confirm this?

They are fairly good in the theme park rumor business, so this is definitely possible. All I know is where is the Orlando version?!

If this is true, I'll finally have a reason to check out Disney Land and the California Adventure!!

I wasn't gonna say anything but since the cat's out of the bag...I heard a similar rumor that the EOLC is moving to Stage 12 in the backlot.

Is there anyway of putting all the non-ARG related threads into their own sub-forum/topic/thread?

It was bad enough when Lex originally started this thread, but now it's just plain silly. I check every day for game updates, and every day there's some new thread about DIY swag/forum avatars/some guy saw some footage at some expo/tron bike leathers etc etc etc etc. It's all cool stuff! But it's not related to the game save for the Tron connection.

Do I need to take it up with a Mod to get sorted?

I wouldnt be so sure that the Disneyland stuff isnt related to the game...what if there is an event held there? ...or some sort of special code you can only get for going there. i say lets pool everything that has potential in this thread so we have it in a file cabinet if and when it becomes relevant
