[TROUT] Count-up timer at http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/time. Count up timer on the scariest thing has just started (or noticed) today at:
http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/time.php
Currently it appears to have been running for 1281372713 seconds which translates at something like 40.7y (i.e. latter half of 1969)
Bracing myself for a trout if this has been previously noted, but personally have only just noticed it googling today.

Correction - It looks more like 40 years, 6 months and 5 days. That would be the 4th January 1970. Only notable event I can find so far is:

Well I knew about the count down but couldn't find anything pertaining to up (though he may well have done, just didn't hit my search attempts). If it's GMT -4 I believe it fits in with Eastern Standard (summer) Time and Josh's presumed locale (Beckley, West Virginia according to Yahoo) which supports (albiet weakly) him being the PDP-11 user.
EDIT: self

Point Counter Point Yeah, I had mentioned it a couple times ...
The counter made sense while the FileLisB4 was running, but why is it still running?
Someone had suggested the start time was the beginning of UNIX (or, something like that) ... I will have to go back through the threads to find it.

The start time seems either right before or right at Unix, yeah. That's what that google search showed me...

With the help of
http://www.onlineconversion.com/howold.htm and http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/time.php (F5)
The exact date & time is January 1 1970 at 00:59:59
Maybe this weird time is the result of an UTC/GMT problem
so tick-tock, the birth of Unix it is, I don't think there's another magical mystery in here.
It's a shame, we could use some fresh, new, funky puzzle.

Let's put an end to this whole time.php discussion right now...
It's UNIX time. Time zones are a pain to deal with, so they have that page running on the server to establish a standard of sorts. This is/was used for two things: the clock in the bottom right corner, and the countdown to access the file list. Nothing more.

Not true. It holds the correct time when you first visit it. It just doesn't change after that point.
