I found something on Japanonymous. Here's hoping someone with a better image editor than mine can manage the next step.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Go to the Japanonymous contact page at http://www.japanonymous.com/contact. Select all. Above the phone image it says "A s3cret message @ here. To those who decode, a contact exposed…" After I found it I was playing around with the phone image, and I'm nearly certain the middle part has letters/numbers, look something like C67, but I can't get it clear enough to see. I have my fingers crossed that "s3cret" suggests this was the intended route to find Melpomene and it might help lead us to the third word.

the image name is 200512.jpg

20 05 12 is TEL

Probably a coincidence.

Well it sounds like Rika is on the right track.

I don't know if this would help. I can't actually view most of the sites and pictures because I can only currently access my net from my blackberry... So I'm basing this on my lurking.

Obviously we've skipped some steps. Either:

1) we should work backwards. Which might start with what rika found. What would have Led us to choose Melpomene. She said there's a secret meaning to her name and to use it we have to figure out what that meaning is. What does melpomene stand for? What's it's significance.

2) Some have already stated they think the reason we're stuck at this stage is because we played a guessing game with something that we were probably meant to figure out. Yet we're still playing guessing games with the pictures. Maybe there's a reason iriguchi and jitensha were picked as words. Did we ever figure out why? Or were they just words randomly guessed.

Don't know if this will help any. But just a couple thoughts since I can't really look at any of the clues. Sad

Whoever said it was a word?

The answer to this riddle has to be a number.

The main index has the following:

Code:

ana gra mdi sha rmo nyt ook jpn ott
595 389 010 369 919 619 333 345 039

The individual nine images' pages with their filename and the title of the page
Code:

gsh10a aixgsh hg01as hga01s g10sha agixsh agsixh h01gas gs10ha
010108 311001 111511 011103 151415 011005 201921 311005 311007

Code:

Header - pic name - keyword - descr.

010108 - gsh10a - epic - left hand w/ writing
311001 - aixgsh - history - person w/ goggles
111511 - hg01as - love - bicycle
011103 - hga01s - music - drawing?
151415 - g10sha - tragedy - poem
011005 - agixsh - sacred - typed letter
201921 - agsixh - choral - absinthe, A-spades, gun
311005 - h01gas - comedy - blurry drawing
311007 - gs10ha - astronomy - another typed letter

This image: http://www.qu13e.com/595/ has a lot of numbers on it.

But there's a sound that rings somewhat familiar.

What else sounds like a telephone?

Or is it the fact that you got a word out of two others...? hmmm...

I'm a sucker for this. The PM of this game is incredibly patient.

Maybe I missed something, where did the 109 come from, Rika? Cause it obviously was closer than some of the other guesses we've made.

Also, I don't know if anybody know how to retrieve this sort of information, but I opened up the nine main images in notepad to see if I could find anything. I noticed that "Canister Spies" and "Slip sInternal" are saved in a different format that the others. It looks like there's some photoshop stuff in there, but I tried saving it to a .psd file and opening it in Gimp and then Photoshop but had no luck. Thought I would put it out there in case anyone else had any ideas.

Obsessive digging through patterns and themes over the last month, particularly on Japanonymous. That site is layer upon layer of wordplay and literature and music references and numbers, really overwhelming. 3 numbers that kept appearing over and over in one way or another were 1, 0, 9.

Double posting 'cause it's 3 days later, man I feel like I'm close and it's driving me nuts.

Rika,

I don't exactly know the answer to his riddle, save only that I'll know it when I can see and hear its ring.

I'm sorry for such an ambiguous reply, seems Random always has the last good bye.

It's gotta be a phone number.

Based on the numbers 1, 0, and 9, and your thinking it's a phone number...

901 is the area code for Memphis, TN.

019 and 109 aren't anything as far as I can tell.

However that's excluding international area codes. I just looked for matching numbers in the U.S.

Rika, who sent you that email, and under what context? I just thought it would be nice to know how you got there. But it's amazing, whatever is hidden on that page, you seem to be getting really close.

Also, sent an email to melpomene asking if denwa[telephone] was the the thrid key, since terehon[katakana version of telephone] had "a familiar ring to it".

Denwa [telephone] is not, one plus two is three.

Also, I noticed on Japanonymous the picture of the telephone had invisibleye as the author. I sent an email to invisibleyeSPLATjapanonymous.com, but received no response. But also didn't get a delivery failed notice either.
