[INFO] Quick Reference Guide - Act One

So, for ease of getting caught up (and staying that way) in The Lost Experience, I've made this thread which will keep track of the MAJOR finds and solves during the game. This will encompass UK, US, and AUS clues, unless it either becomes apparent that 1.) there are seperate games for the different countries, or 2.) the clues/puzzles/solutions are too many for one page.

With no further ado, here's What We Know So Far:

Phone numbers:

May 02 2006:
- This Hanso Foundation press release was posted on the UK's Channel 4 website. It contains an American phone number (206-861-5017) and email (Hugh.McIntyreSPLATthehansofoundation.org) for a Hugh McIntyre of the Hanso Foundation.

- The folks in #uf rang the number, and got Hugh McIntyre's voicemail.

- During the Lost episode in the UK, an advert for The Hanso Foundation is aired (same as one on the website) but with a UK phone number added. Calling the number gives you several options to choose from. You can listen to the messages on the different options here. Variations of the first option gives you the Persephone password (below).

May 03 2006:
- During the US airing of Lost, another phone number was given. At this time, it appears that (when people can get through) it is the same options and information as the above UK number.

May 04 2006:
- The AUS number leads to the same messages. No new clues there.

Websites:

The Hanso Foundation

May 02 2006:
- http://www.thehansofoundation.org has been relaunched, with alot more content than before. It is also discovered that the previously mentioned Hugh McIntyre is the Communications Director (Executive Bios link).

- Clicking the Newsgroup (Sign up) link takes you to a place where you can supposedly sign up for a newsletter... however, after entering a screenname, Persephone wants to talk to you. Give her the right password and you will be "logged in" to the website.

- After logging in, click on Joop's Corner and send a message. After playing connect the dots etc, you will be shown a document. Click on the signature at the end of the first document and you will see a second document.

- Going to the Bermuda Triangle displays some interesting stuff as well.

May 6, 2006:
- A solve was found for the missing words on the Mathematical Forcasting Initiative page. What the full text actually *means* is still open for discussion.

May 8, 2006:
- Update on The Hanso Foundation Executive Bios page. Possible solution here, here, and here.

May 9, 2006:
- An update to Thomas Mittelwerk's blurb on the Exec bio - a textbox appears under "Alvar Hanso's right hand". Enter the sublymonal code (below) and press enter to see an interesting document regarding the good doctor.
(A really good summary of both the Sublymonal and Mittelwerk updates here.)

May 12, 2006:
- The News section was updated with the press release found a couple days ago... and along with it, a Cease and Desist letter to the folks at Hyperion.

May 16, 2006:
- A new site was discovered in THF.org's source code.

May 17, 2006:
- Hugh McIntyre's bio has been updated to include a textbox. The solve shows us just what kind of guy Mr. McIntyre *really* is.

- At the same time, the ERI page was updated and leads to a new site and the solve for Hugh's password (above).

- Colin posted a really good walkthrough of the Hugh McIntyre/Compass site update.

May 19, 2006:
- We knew, sooner or later, it would happen: Peter Thompson's bio page was updated, and the solve shows us some things about Peter he may not like others to know.

May 24, 2006:
- Exec Bios -> Board of Directors page has been updated to where the password field works. Entering the correct password displays some interesting information on a couple members of the Board of Directors that proves they're working at the right place.

- A new Careers link has been added in the lower right next to the RSS button, which leads to new website.

May 30, 2006
- The Mathematical Forcasting Initiative page has been updated, opening the map and clicking on certain links and entering information reveals some more dirt on THF. Also, a hidden link may be giving us info on the identity of our confidant.

persephone.hansofoundation.org

May 5, 2006:
- A press release was listed on The Hanso Foundations main page (under Important News). A hidden link with some cryptic numbers. There has been an apparent solve but no idea what to do with it yet.

May 7, 2006:
- New Persephone numbers have been posted. Possible solution here.

May 11, 2006:
- Bested at our own game... www.lost-forum.com found the real answer to the May 7th Persephone numbers.

May 17, 2006:
- New numbers and solution posted.

May 18, 2006:
- The page is blank... or is it ?

- Updated again with new numbers . Took a long time to solve, starting with a conversion and then the final solve after discovering a translation error.

May 21, 2006:
- Persephone's page was updated with just a single number. Ooookkayyy. However, late on Sunday a clever clever UFer figured it out and leads us to Persephone's 2nd Hole.

hole2.thehansofoundation.org

May 21, 2006:
- The earlier Persephone update led us to this new page (see above). No ideas yet as to what the picture displayed there means.

hole3.thehansofoundation.org

(date needed):
- new faceless image, with "save me" in the pixels
- same faceless image later replaced with one almost identical
- combining the two images yields a hidden 'd2o' in the pixels, which is the chemical symbol for "heavy water", which is our latest password for the __(need to fill this in)__ section of thf.org

hole4.thehansofoundation.org

June 12, 2006:
- new faceless image, the file names of all 3 combined become another password.

www.sublymonal.com

May 9 2006:
- If you happen to be on The Hanso Foundation site when your system clock turns to :42, you'll see the Hanso clock change. Clicking on the clock takes you to another site where you'll have to jump through some hoops, whereupon a code is given to you that can be used on the May 9th Mittelwerk update (above, under Hanso Foundation site).

www.djdan.am

May 16, 2006:
- DJ Dan has lots of interesting stuff on this site, but it appears the podcast is the main nugget (so far).
- Transcripts for the DJ Dan podcasts are attached to this post

May 25, 2006:
- DJ Dan podcast stored on the subLYMONal website (access code '108') talks about using an EMP to knock the moon out of orbit
- Transcripts for the DJ Dan podcasts are attached to this post

June 1, 2006
- DJ Dan has a new Podcast, which leads us back to our favorite compass site.
- this podcast was originally presented as a video on YouTube.com, presumeably hacked with visual commentary by Persephone, mocking DJ Dan for "selling out"
- Transcripts for the DJ Dan podcasts are attached to this post

June 8, 2006
- new podcast with a caller telling us that he found a shark with a tattoo
- Transcripts for the DJ Dan podcasts are attached to this post

June 14, 2006
- new podcast stored on the RetrieversOfTruth website, talking about a black cloud of nanites or nanobots
- Transcript for this podcast was added to this post

www.letyourcompassguideyou.com

May 19 2006:
- Not only did we get this from the ERI page, but also during the US broadcast of "Lost". A compass is displayed, and the solve leads to a wealth of information, including Hugh's and Peter's mailboxes with several instances of Hugh's password (above), a video with an interesting last frame , a mysterious Jeep ad , and binary translators .

June 1 2006
- the DJ Dan 6/1 podcast linked back to this site, with a new question and leads us to some new information.

www.hansocareers.com

May 24, 2006:
- A new link on THF.org (and new commercial during "Lost" season finale (US)) led us to this site, which has some very interesting job postings, the most interesting things being the slightly different-colored letters in them. Anagramming the letters gives the password for the BoD page (above).

Gary Troup's interview on "Book Talk":
- Laird Granger asks some leading questions and gets some disturbing answers, about how "Bad Twin" includes some real life people and places to add veracity to his fiction, and those real people do not appreciate the negative way in which they are portrayed. Also, some hints that Hanso didn't want us to read the previous non-fiction book "The Valenzetti Equation".

from what I've seen in compairing the information thats already been complied and the times I've gotten into that US number, it looks extremely similar, if not is.

Just a quick list of believed in-game sites (due to ingame site references):

www.valenzettifoundation.org (references widmore and GPC)
www.widmorelaboratories.com (references Dharms)
www.globalparadigmscorp.com (references Hanso)

through a bit of digging, Enrico Valenzetti also links to
Caroline Bella ( http://www.angelfire.com/planet/carolinebella/ )
- with an image with an autograph for Enrico
- the email at the bottom indicates the site was made by him
this site also links to his favourite author:
S.K.Nave ( http://www.angelfire.com/rings/mygrandmothersbooks )
- this site however, seems to be made by Rachel Nave, though the style is still fully Enrico's style (mimicking his Caroline Bella site)

I'm pretty sure this is getting OOG, it's just still suspicious is all. There are no references to in-game sites in Enrico's angelfire webspaces.

(Your moderator here, butting in, because i can, to say that those first two URLs in this post are KNOWN to be FAN-made sites and are NOT in-game -- catherwood)

(Disabled signature, no pics in sigs please! Thanks. - GuyP)

I'm not quite following here...your saying the sites are (possibly) ingame because they reference a known ingame site? Shouldn't it be the otherway around? If an ingame site points to an unknown site, the unkown can be considered ingame too. anyone can make a site that links to an ingame site.

I think this thread should stick to hard facts (well at least as hard as they get in an ARG) if you want spec you should be prepared to read through the other threads.

Ok let me rephrase: GPC, which also references Hanso, reference Valenzetti Foundation. Therefore by that reasoning, Enrico Valenzetti must be ingame, so it's worth following any sites that are supposedly created by him.

Problem is, in-game sites could possibly reference OOG sites, just as OOG sites could possibly reference ingame sites. The only thing we can go by is whether an ingame character is directly involved, which we'd usually know by some meta 'stamp', such as Disney's privacy policy/terms of use (found on Gary Troup's site).
However, Widmore Labs' website has neither of these, nor does GPC. So I would assume at this point we can't yet be 100% sure of what is ingame or not.
That, or none of these sites can be considered in-game. Except that Widmore was referred to in an audio file (or commercial, iirc)

There is also some interesting information in the US thread about the Bad Twin book release, a video clip with an interview from the author found on Amazon.com.

Might be ingame, if not interesting, to say the least.

But then - which Widmore site do you take? Widmorelaboratories.com or widmore.com or maybe another site that hasn't been found yet? The thing is, every time a name is mentioned in one of the episodes, chances are high that someone is going to go and register a domain based on it and put up a fan site.

The DNS of widmorelaboratories is, IMHO, very suspect. GPS also has a strange DNS, and LostPedia has determined that it is non-canon. The Valenzetti site has yet to be confirmed as canon or not, according to LostPedia. It has indications that it may have been registered by someone related to the show, but it has not been confirmed.

Because of the extreme number of fan sites, some sort of vetting process is going to have to be put into place. You can't just automatically declare a site to be ingame because it happens to mention something from the tv show. Right now, the accepted list of official ABC sites is small (hanso, the oceanic sites, the fuselage). As I really doubt that ABC would just randomly link to some poor fan page (not only would it probably bring down the site, the site could then later seriously mess with the canon of Lost), I would be willing to bet that if a site is specifically linked to (and not just a proper name mentioned) it would have some sort of blessing by the Lost Experience creators, and thus be much more likely to be IG.

----

edit: According to these posts, the book is part of the Lost universe, and some of the sites are 'official' but they are not connected with the game either (so take that as you will).

I'm drawing up a map of sites and connections to see if all this 'Valenzetti trail' (thread) seems legit... if any link to known in-game sites is suspect, and all self-referenced sites fall within that little bubble, then it likely is all just fan-made... but that is a lot of work...

but that would reduce the number of ingame references solely to:

www.garytroup.net
www.thehansofoundation.org
and the various store links to the book Bad Twin (and the video and audio links)

otherwise, even widmore.com may be suspect, since the url hasn't specifically been referenced in-game. Just "Widmore" (or Widmore Industries)

(correct me if I'm wrong on any of these facts Smile

Australian Details

The same ad appeared straight after the episode of Lost on Channel Seven on Thurs 4th May, with the Australian specific phone number of 1800 22 77 17. It contains the same information as the UK and US versions.

You're right on, thebruce. I think that we're limited to Gary Troup and THF at this point.

Just as a bit of a follow up, I can confirm that at the end of MI:3, the last 'special thanks' is to the Hanso Foundation. But it seems the connections end there (I was hoping Jun would randomly pop up when they were running though china Razz )

Still, a cool shoutout, but not worth listening to Kanye rap for 10 minutes after the fact.

also, if staying up to date, you may want to add links to the in-game sites thread, and info about the video links...

plus maybe links to relevent wikis... there are a few now, not sure which is specific to just this arg, and not Lost the show or other more generic Lost wikis just covering the arg.

ie, we need one specific wiki that the community can dedicate to the arg, if it doesn't already exist. Too many resources just get confusing.

all the info for THF.org on that wiki has been detailed at some point in these forums... didn't see anything new. lostpedia.com is useful, but is this the wiki we (everyone) is using to track current info as it's found in the community (not just UF)? or is this generally just a mirror that people will update if they find some info missing (not that that's bad in itself)?
ie, where (if at all) is the premier immediate source for ARG info in wiki form?
